The Early History of West Point’s Landscape
USMA Professor of Geography, Dr. Jon Malinowsi, knows all about West Point’s early history - and he’s sharing some of what he knows in a forthcoming book with the West Point Press.
Dr. Malinowski’s book examines the changing landscape and architecture of the West Point landscape across the decades from just before the Academy’s founding in 1802 until 1860. If you don’t know what a refectory or a privy are, Jon’s book explains the terms and tells you when and where they were built over the years. Dr. Malinwoski also goes into detail about the various buildings that have dotted the Academy grounds years, providing architectural designs, maps, and artists’ renderings to help tell the story of the Academy’s rich architectural history.
The West Point Landscape: 1802-1860 will be available in hard copy on 4 May, 2024.
