Customize an Existing Volume

The Press maintains a large library of existing, signature digital textbooks that can be selectively used or reconfigured for a course. Alternatively, an entirely new digital textbook can be developed with the Press.

1 - Review Existing Titles

Browse the Press’ extensive library of digital texts for subjects that might be relevant. These signature textbooks - written by subject-matter experts and infused with custom interactive content - can be selectively apportioned for specific pedagogical needs. Topics include:

  • Military History

  • Leadership Development

  • Counterterrorism

  • Civil Rights

  • Primary source collections

For any titles with relevant content, request an exam/desk copy.

2 - Select Your Chapters

Select any combination of chapters from any of the existing books to fit the curriculum of the course. For instance, the chapters from the 71-chapter, Military History survey have been selectively used and reconfigured for many historical movements and topics, including: World War II, Napoleonic Warfare, Vietnam, European History, the Wars of 9/11, the Cold War, American Military History, and so on.

The Press can also develop hybrid texts with chapters of existing and new content, if teachers so choose.

3 - Provide Additional Info

Provide the Press with some additional relevant information. Will volumes be purchased (for lifetime access) or rented (for the semester only)? Does the university require students to purchase directly through their bookstore? If so, the Press can work with the bookstore to sell access codes.

For planning purposes, the Press also requests some other basic information including start dates, class sizes, and other instructors/teaching assistants that require exam/desk copies.

4 - Review Pricing

The Press does not generate a profit but it does aim to cover the costs associated with developing and maintaining its digital textbook inventory. The Press strives to keep its digital textbooks priced more competitively than commercial publishers who are profit-driven.

5 - Learn and Enjoy

Before the start of classes, the book will be available in the online store/eLearning portal and ready to use. Students can access the book anywhere, anytime (with an internet connection), or download chapters for use (for when they’re offline).
